Jack Barns fully impressed Daisy! She never forgot his kind words upon seeing her doubts after shooting the elegant elk. She well remembered the minute he took her hand after she went over to the dead elk and walked her back to his lodge. She admired the way the gentleman had acted, and of course she was taken by his wealth, as displayed by the luxurious hunting lodge. She was determined to charm him and make him realize that she admired him or even better: that she was a seasoned hunter and wanted to seduce him.

The next time Bernard was scheduled for an extended business trip to Germany and France, Daisy took the occasion to see Jack in secret. Bernard’s trip was supposed to last two weeks.

Bernard returned one week earlier than planned. Daisy was not home upon his return.

The maid said Daisy had driven with a girlfriend to the city center of London to do some shopping and will be back in two or three days.

Bernard immediately sensed that something was wrong. It was not Daisy’s habit to drive her car into town since they had employed a driver for that task. Furthermore, she would not stay more than one day downtown. Besides, shopping in London’s city center was not her first choice!

Never before had she taken off with any girlfriend to drive into the city. If so, she would ask their driver or take a taxi.

Two days later, Daisy returned home without shopping bags. She looked stunned to find her husband already home.

“Do you need any help unloading the car?” Bernard asked.

“No, why? I had a meeting with an important person regarding your business,” Daisy answered.

“Our maid told me that you went shopping with a girlfriend in downtown London,” Bernard said, puzzled.

“That’s correct. We went to London and ordered some clothing, and then we met this important man. On our way back, my girlfriend’s car had a leak and the brakes did not work properly anymore, so we had to spend the night in a motel along the road until the brakes had been fixed.”

Bernard realized that she was acting slightly nervous.

Was she telling him the truth? He was not ready for any discussion, and he just let it be.

However, he was not surprised when Daisy took off ten days later, pretending she was going to visit the Viking museum in Stockholm with her art class for two days.

Like a flash, Bernard remembered Daisy flirting with his Swedish friend Jack after the hunting adventure and how much she wanted to talk to him at the party in Paris.

Has she started an affair with Jack? he pondered.

Was he the important person she met in downtown London lately?

Daisy brought up excuse after excuse for traveling here or there, which seemed quite strange since she hated to travel unless she could reside in a noble hotel and stay for at least a week.
